Snow in Eugene...........in 1875

Here is a photo of Elizabeth Stewart Lucky in the front of her home on the northeast corner of 10th and Pearl in about 1875. This house would later be moved and a larger house built for the Lucky family. Mr. Lucky was a jeweler in Eugene for many years. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Lucky, was a daughter of early Lane county settler Elias Stewart and sister to Martha Stewart Hendricks. In the distance can be seen the Peters-Listen-Wintermeyer house at its original location, on the southeast corner of 10th and Pearl. It was moved circa 1914 to 1611 Lincoln St., where it has been beautifully restored by its current owners.

  1. Where was this Lucky House later moved to?

  2. I have tried to do some research as to where the house ended up but have found nothing definitive. It probably wasn't moved far and has most likely met the fate of almost all the other houses in the neighborhood and been torn down.

  3. The Luckey family came from County Derry, Ireland. The man who owned Luckey's jewellery was a cousin of the founder of Luckey's Club, (still in business in downtown Eugene).

  4. I was told that the Luckey house may have formed part of the house on Blair across from Sam Bonds and that the parlor interior was still the same. This was told to me by a previous owner named Doug.

  5. The A.V. Peters house, aka Peters-Liston-Wintermeier House was moved in 1912 from the SE corner of Pearl and 10th to its present site on the SE corner of Lincoln and 16th.
